Indonesian Rattan:
Nancy Craft Co.

One day, a friend brought Alfred a few pieces of baskets made of rattan. Placing them on the table, he asked "Alfred, can you do this for me?".
It only took a simple question for Alfred to launch his craft company called "Nancy Craft Co".
Established in 1981, Nancy Craft Co. began in a humble Indonesian family home. Now, with 40 years of industry knowledge and experience, the business has steadily expanded worldwide with customers in 45 countries. Starting with a single order request from an overseas client, they have grown to become globally recognised specialists in rattan, furniture, and handicraft.
Passed down from father to daughter, there has always been a focus on having sustainability at the heart of their operations. The father of three, Alfred built everything from scratch and handmade each product himself. Initially, the office was in their living room with one secretary helping to manage the business.
During an interview with CEO Regina Kindagen, she revealed how the company got its name.
"Why ‘Nancy Craft’?" asked his daughter Regina Kindagen, now the owner of Nancy Craft Co. Her father replied, "Because it's your mother's name!".
The Pioneer in Sustainability
Back in the 1990s, not many people knew about sustainability let alone cared about it.
Nancy Craft Co. were well ahead of the times and are now adept in a number of sustainable practices to ensure a reduced negative impact on the environment.

Although they have faced a few roadblocks in promoting their sustainability strategy, this only ever encouraged Owner Regina Kindagen to educate others about the benefits of sustainability.
Community-focused
In 2012, Nancy Craft Co. increased its focus on community development and became involved in empowering SMEs across Indonesian villages. With the support of town governments, their programs taught Indonesian SMEs how to build strong foundations for a strong business and therefore, how to create better-living conditions for their family and their community. By sharing their expertise and knowledge for more efficient operations, Nancy Craft Co. hoped to both nourish and assist SMEs with the tools for community growth.

When talking about the ripple effect of such programs, Owner Regina Kindagen noted that they all felt “the need to share our knowledge to help others”.
Leading with unique designs
With the perfect blend of traditional craftsmanship and environmentally friendly practices, Nancy Craft Co. provides home goods without cutting corners on quality or ethics.
One of their collections included uniquely crafted products that paid homage to their consumers' cultural tastes. In this special way, Nancy Craft Co. was able to weave global heritage into Indonesian craft reflecting their distinctive company approach.
